Project Description

Opened in 1928, the Plummer Building is a fifteen-story iconic building in the heart of the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, MN and is designated as a National Historic Landmark. This $1.9 million dollar restoration project completed by Building Restoration Corporation included tuckpointing, chemical cleaning, individual brick replacement, joint resealing, thru-wall flashing, stone patching, replacing artifacts, and installing a control joint. The intricate terra-cotta masonry work and unique working conditions made this an exceptional project.

The extent of the stone repair was significant, including surface patching, repointing, stone panel replacement of over 200 stones, repointing of 1,100 square feet of masonry brick, and repointing of 7,000 linear feet of terra-cotta. Along with repointing, the terra-cotta restoration also included replacing over 500 terra-cotta tiles, repairing glazing, surface patching, and crack stitching.
